Ana Sofia Gonçalves was born in Lisbon, in 1979. She is a Plastic Artist, Set designer, Illustrator and Teacher. She graduated in Fine Arts-Painting at the Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa in 2003 and in 2012 completed a Master’s degree in Teaching Visual Arts at the Universidade de Lisboa. She has been teaching Visual Arts since 2004. She taught Adereços at the Escola Profissional de Artes e Ofícios do Espetáculo do Chapitô and teaches Visual Arts at Colégio Pedro Arrupe. She runs illustration, assemblage and sculpture workshops in schools and libraries across the country. Ana Sofia Gonçalves works on childhood memories and sensations, but also on stories of a dreamlike world in which animals acquire personality and a life of their own. She has exhibited individually at Galeria Trema, in Lisbon, and at Galeria Trindade, in Porto. She has participated in several group exhibitions, including Artelisboa - Feira Internacional de Arte Contemporânea and Just Mad- Feira Internacional de Madrid. In addition to painting, illustration and sculpture, her work includes scenography for theatre, television and advertising events. She has participated in several projects related to Fernando Alvim, such as the design and execution of sets for Bar Inferno, Ikea/Solidariedade, Festival Termómetro, Monstros do Ano and Prova Oral - on Antena 3 radio. She has created the stage set for the program "É a vida Alvim", for Speaky TV, +TVI and, currently, for the Q channel. She has collaborated with the producer H2N – Phenomena makers, creating set designs for events and advertising for Hendrick's Gin, Cerveja Bohemia, Grupo José Avillez, Drambuie, Monkey Shoulder, among other brands. She collaborated with Teatroesfera and Teatro Ibérico creating sets, props and costumes for the shows: "O meu pai é um homem pássaro", directed by João Ricardo; “Diário de um migrante” and “O Guardador de sonhos”, directed by João Garcia Miguel. Recently she created the set and the props for the immersive show “Alice - o outro lado da história”, directed by Miguel Thiré, for the producer Panorâmica 35 - Films.
